Electing A Pope
Thanks to the Archdiocese of Dublin Education Secretariat for the resources used in preparing this powerpoint. It is educational, interesting and interactive! The link at the end to the La Stampa Italian newspaper's animation of the election process is particularly impressive. I've included a pdf handout to allow students to bring the information home to share with others.

Pupil Parable Competition
This competition is open to all Junior Cycle Religion students with the aim to get them to contemporize what they have learned about parables. In Section B of this website, Part 3; The Person And Preaching of Jesus, there are the full list of details for this contest. Students are invited to write their own parable based on the inspiration from ten random photographs and to include one/some characteristics of the Kingdom of God in their parables. Please feel free to print off the poster below containing all the details and advertise it among your students. Closing date is Fri 24th May.

Religious Posters.
These pictures have been collected over a long period of time & I'm constantly adding to the list and finding new uses for them - print them off as posters for the classroom, for display, in a sacred space or even as screen savers on the computer for inspiration! It is very easy to open one in either a word document or a powerpoint and then to type your message over it in wordart? Put a random selection in a powerpoint presentation and set them to music for a meditation to help focus students? They can be used as a focal point in assemblies or for the various liturgies throughout the year?
Mandalas
These are perfect if you find colouring therapeutic or to help a giddy class learn to calm and focus during a guided meditation or relaxing music. Can also be helpful for Chaplains/Pastoral Care.
Resources for the teaching of Key Concepts;
These resources are very handy for the pre-teaching of key terms which allow students to familiarise themselves with the terminology that will be used in each new section. As I compile them I will put PowerPoint presentations, crosswords, templates for the teaching and revising of the Key Concepts in each section up here...

Techie Tips!
These are helpful for anyone who is looking to update their teaching methodologies in lne with the technologies that our students are using for learning outside the classroom. The first document is an appraisal of available Apps for use in the Religion classroom with iPads. Ian Mulcahy, an RE teacher in Cork, generously sent this on to me.

Wordle!
These are print outs from this popular site (http://www.wordle.net/) which gives you a picture of the most frequently used words in a colourful and quirky way. I simply copied and pasted each section of the syllabus into the Create tab and these are the results! You can print them out on A3 paper in colour for the wall in your room or use them as handouts and ask students to locate as many key concepts for each section as they can!

Liturgies
Included here are some powerpoints, readings and booklets from liturgies we have celebrated. They will need to be adapted to suit your own needs or you can simply adopt the template & change the details - either way, they may be of some help in getting started!
This powerpoint was put to music while a reflection to remember & celebrate the lives of the deceased was read out over it. The images are useful for other liturgies.
A handy powerpoing fo Ash Wednesday - you may want to watch the timing of the slides though! It ties in the parable of the sower refraing the the theme 'But the Sower went on sowing...' and I've incleded the text in a separate document below.
'The Way Of The Cross For Today' is a useful way to contemporise the Stations of The Cross to help students understand their relevance for today's society.

The next powerpoint we used back at Easter, 2009. It may be more suitable for senior cycle students as it uses still images from the 'Passion of The Christ' movie.
This is another Easter powerpoint from 2008 where we tried to replicate the message from Holy Week to every week. I've included the notes relating to the images we used in the slide view mode at the bottom of the screen - if you pring out each 'slide with notes' you get the entire transcript.
These are some imnages which can be projected during the somg 'You Raise Me Up', which is effectrive for liturgies, assemblies or a class meditation.
A lovely, simple Slideshare presentation on Lent from www.seomraranga.com - concise & to the point!

These are handy clips for use in prayer services, assemblies or meditations - you simply paste one into a powerpoint presentation and set it to play continuously on a loop and it is fantastic for helping to set an appropriate mood.

These are some of the foundation statements for Catholic Schools Week which we put on to a picture of a brick wall. Printed onto A3 size sheets it can be quite visually effective in a display around the school or in a sacred space/classroom.

These are also some templates we gave to stuents to complete during Catholic Schools Week; they had to research biblical references which reflected the theme 'Share the Good News' and then draw a picture or print the text in a visually effective way - again a cheap and student centred way to a colourful wall display!
